UP approves AKTU model for digitized university exams

Uttar Pradesh is set to introduce a digitized examination system across its state universities after the Governor’s Secretariat approved the rollout of the AKTU model, excluding agricultural and medical institutions.

The move is aimed at overhauling the existing exam framework by integrating technology into question paper distribution, evaluation, and monitoring processes.

Under the new system, question papers will be transmitted online and printed directly at examination centers, replacing the conventional method of physical transportation. Authorities expect this to reduce delays and minimize logistical risks.

Answer sheet evaluation will also shift to a digital platform, allowing examiners to assess responses online from designated centers or affiliated colleges. The change is intended to ensure faster and more standardized marking.

To enhance security, answer sheets will include barcodes, QR codes, and dummy numbers, aimed at preventing tampering, substitution, or loss.

Examination centers will be equipped with CCTV cameras, and biometric attendance will be mandatory for both students and staff to curb malpractice.

Examiners will receive secure digital access to question papers, answer keys, and scanned copies of answer sheets, which is expected to streamline coordination and improve transparency in the evaluation process.

Officials said the system will also lead to significant cost savings by reducing expenses related to printing, transportation, and manual assessment.

The reform is designed to address persistent issues such as cheating, paper leaks, and impersonation by limiting manual handling at critical stages.

The adoption of the AKTU model is being seen as a major technological shift in the state’s higher education system, with authorities expecting it to set a new standard for conducting university examinations.
