The university also launched digital studios and an alumni portal to expand educational content delivery, strengthen outreach in remote areas, and connect its growing network of over 5.3 million graduates.

The Indira Gandhi National Open University awarded degrees to more than 3.24 lakh students at its 39th convocation held in New Delhi on April 7, with ceremonies conducted simultaneously across regional centers nationwide.
Vice President C P Radhakrishnan presided over the event as chief guest, while Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu attended as the guest of honor.

PhD degrees and gold medals were presented to top-performing students in the presence of academic officials, faculty members, and learners.
The university also used the occasion to roll out new initiatives focused on digital expansion and alumni engagement. Seventeen Swayam Prabha studios were inaugurated across regional centers to boost the creation and broadcast of curriculum-based educational content, particularly for students in remote areas.
An alumni portal and IGNOU Profile 2026 were also launched, aimed at connecting the institution’s network of over 5.3 million graduates and strengthening ongoing engagement.
Addressing the gathering, the Vice President highlighted the role of the university in expanding access to education.
He said, “IGNOU as an institution played a profound role in educating, socially uplifting, and contributing to the nation’s progress.” He added that the university has evolved over time, stating that “IGNOU is no more a ‘Distance Learning System’; rather, it has become a ‘Closest Learning System.'"
The convocation marked the completion of academic programs for a large number of students enrolled in open and distance learning courses across the country.
