NCERT releases new Class 9 textbooks for 2026-27

The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has begun rolling out revised Class 9 textbooks for the 2026-27 academic session, with the new Mathematics book already available and the Social Science textbook set to hit the market on September 30.

The latest editions are part of the ongoing overhaul of school curriculum under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE) 2023. NCERT is introducing the revised learning material in phases as schools transition to the updated curriculum.

The new Class 9 Mathematics textbook, Ganita Manjari – Part 2, has been printed and is available for sale from September 21, 2026. Students, teachers, parents and schools can purchase it through NCERT’s authorised sales channels.

The revised Mathematics book is among the textbooks prescribed for the 2026-27 academic session and is designed to support the curriculum changes being introduced at the secondary school level.

Social Science textbook from September 30

The new Class 9 Social Science textbook, Understanding Society: India & Beyond – Part 2, will be available for sale from September 30, 2026, according to NCERT.

Once released, students and schools can purchase the textbook through NCERT Sales Counters, the council’s official website and Amazon.

NCERT has advised students, teachers, parents and schools to obtain the prescribed textbooks through its authorised sales channels for the 2026-27 academic session.

New books aligned with NEP 2020 and NCF-SE 2023

The revised Class 9 textbooks have been developed in line with the curricular direction set by NEP 2020 and NCF-SE 2023.

NCERT said the new books are intended to address the evolving learning needs of students and support schools in implementing the revised curriculum.

The council has also clarified that the release of the two textbooks is being carried out according to the approved schedule and rollout plan.

What the new rollout means for Class 9 students

For students entering Class 9 in the 2026-27 academic session, the revised Mathematics textbook is already available, while the new Social Science book will be released later this month.

The latest releases form part of NCERT’s wider, phased transition to textbooks based on the revised school curriculum. As more updated books are introduced, students and schools will gradually move to learning resources aligned with the curricular framework envisaged under NEP 2020 and NCF-SE 2023.
