Chhattisgarh hikes PG medical, dental residents’ stipends from Oct 1

The Chhattisgarh government has approved an increase in the monthly stipend paid to postgraduate medical and dental students enrolled in government medical and dental colleges in the state. The revised rates will come into effect from Oct 1.

Under the new structure, first-year postgraduate medical students will receive Rs 85,050 per month, compared with the existing Rs 67,500. The stipend for second-year students has been increased from Rs 71,450 to Rs 90,027, while third-year students will receive Rs 93,996, up from Rs 74,600.

The government has also substantially revised the stipend for postgraduate dental students. First-year dental residents will now receive Rs 85,050 per month, against Rs 53,500 previously. Second-year students will receive Rs 90,027, up from Rs 56,700, while the stipend for third-year students has been increased from Rs 59,200 to Rs 93,996.

The revision follows a proposal from the Directorate of Medical Education. According to the government order, the proposal was received on August 13, 2026, and the revised rates have been approved for eligible postgraduate residents.

With the new structure, PG medical and PG dental students in the same year of study will receive the same monthly stipend. The increase represents a rise of about 26 per cent across the three years for PG medical students, while the increase for PG dental residents is substantially higher, at around 59 per cent overall.

The stipend revision comes shortly after the state government also approved an increase in the monthly stipend for MBBS interns in government medical colleges to Rs 25,000 from Oct 1. The revision followed a proposal from the Directorate of Medical Education and concurrence from the Finance Department.
