The 66th NAMS Annual Conference in Kattankulathur brings together more than 1,400 medical professionals to discuss healthcare innovation, scientific research and interdisciplinary collaboratio

The role of multidisciplinary education, scientific research and technological innovation in improving healthcare delivery took centre stage at NAMSCON 2026, the 66th Annual Conference and Convocation of the National Academy of Medical Sciences (India), hosted by SRM Medical College Hospital & Research Centre (SRM MCH&RC), SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST), Kattankulathur.
The four-day conference, being held from October 8 to 11, is themed ‘Synergy of Science and Technology in Healthcare for a Healthier Tomorrow’. More than 1,400 medical experts and healthcare professionals are participating in the event to exchange knowledge, explore emerging medical technologies and strengthen research collaborations.

Dr. T. R. Paarivendhar, Founder Chancellor of SRMIST, presided over the inaugural ceremony, which was attended by Thiru. Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, Governor of Tamil Nadu and Kerala, as the Chief Guest. Dr. P. Sathyanarayanan, Pro-Chancellor (Academics), SRMIST, and other distinguished guests were also present.
The inauguration featured addresses by senior medical and scientific leaders, felicitation of the Chief Guest and other dignitaries, and the release of the conference souvenir.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar emphasised that scientific research and policy discussions must ultimately benefit people who lack access to medical facilities, particularly those living in remote parts of the country.
“All our efforts, all our research, all our deliberations and debates should be directed towards the person sitting or standing in the remotest village of our country, who is yet to receive medical facilities,” he said.
His remarks highlighted the importance of ensuring that advancements in medical science translate into accessible healthcare services for underserved communities.
Dr. T. R. Paarivendhar underscored the importance of combining different academic disciplines and technological capabilities to address the evolving needs of healthcare.
He said SRM Institute of Science and Technology provides an appropriate environment for strengthening the integration of science and technology in healthcare through multidisciplinary medical education and patient care.
“SRM Institute of Science and Technology is the right place to strengthen the synergy of science and technology in healthcare for a healthier tomorrow through a multidisciplinary approach to medical education and patient care as it is a multidisciplinary university,” he said.
Dr. P. Sathyanarayanan, Pro-Chancellor (Academics), SRMIST, also highlighted the value of interdisciplinary thinking, noting that collaboration across different fields should extend beyond science and technology.
The inaugural session featured addresses by Dr. Digambar Behera, President of the National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS); Dr. Shekhar C. Mande, President of the Indian National Science Academy (INSA); and Dr. Abhijat Sheth, Chairman of the National Medical Commission (NMC).
Their discussions highlighted the significance of scientific progress, quality medical education and collaborative research in strengthening healthcare systems.
The conference brings together senior medical professionals, researchers, academicians and experts from leading medical and research institutions, including AIIMS institutions, to discuss developments in clinical practice, healthcare delivery and medical research.
The scientific programme covers a wide range of emerging challenges and opportunities in medicine. Key topics include:
Antimicrobial resistance
CAR-T cell therapy
Biosimilars
Healthy longevity
Rare genetic disorders
Pandemic preparedness
Diabetes research
Innovations in medical education
Panel discussions are also scheduled to examine robotics in surgery, organ donation and transplantation, and new approaches to tuberculosis management.
These sessions aim to encourage knowledge-sharing and help medical professionals assess how scientific advances and emerging technologies can be applied in clinical settings.
Eight pre-conference workshops were conducted on October 8, offering participants specialised training across clinical and research disciplines.
The workshops covered trauma care, neonatal resuscitation, artificial intelligence in clinical research, spine surgery, endoscopic gastroenterology, palliative care, diagnostic reasoning and physician entrepreneurship.
The sessions provided opportunities for participants to engage with specialised techniques, emerging technologies and contemporary clinical practices.
Prof. (Dr.) R. Jayanthi, Organising Chairperson of NAMSCON 2026 and Dean of SRM MCH&RC, highlighted the conference's role in encouraging collaboration and supporting the next generation of medical professionals.
She said the event provides an opportunity to strengthen partnerships, encourage young minds and promote meaningful progress in healthcare and medical sciences.
Through scientific discussions, expert interactions and interdisciplinary engagement, NAMSCON 2026 seeks to bring research, technology and clinical practice closer together. The conference aims to support innovation, improve patient care and advance the broader goal of building a healthier future.
