fter nearly five years of investigation, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed closure reports in two cases related to the death of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput, clearing his then-girlfriend and actor Rhea Chakraborty of any charges.

The CBI submitted its final reports concluding that there was no evidence found to prove any foul play behind the actor’s tragic death.
After nearly five years of investigation, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed closure reports in two cases related to the death of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput, clearing his then-girlfriend and actor Rhea Chakraborty of any charges.

The 34-year-old actor was found hanging from the ceiling of his apartment in suburban Bandra in Mumbai on June 14, 2020. His postmortem report, conducted at Mumbai's Cooper Hospital, stated the cause of death was asphyxia.
The reports submitted to a Mumbai court by the CBI state that there has been no evidence found to establish any foul play behind the actor’s untimely death.
However, the closure report does not automatically closes the case. It is up to the magistrate to accept or reject the closure report based on which further investigation can be ordered. The complainant can also find legal solutions if they disagree with the police's findings.
The CBI took over the case in August 2020 following a complaint filed by Rajput’s father, KK Singh, in Patna alleging abetment to suicide, financial fraud and mental harassment.
Rhea and her brother Showik Chakraborty were arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in a drug case related to the deceased actor. The NCB alleged that both Rhea and her brother supplied marijuana to Rajput. They were also questioned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) over allegations of money laundering.
However, the Bombay High Court rejected NCB’s theory that Rhea financed and facilitated the actor’s alleged addiction. The brother-sister duo was granted bail after a few months.
Originally from Patna, Rajput made his Bollywood debut with Kai Po Che. He worked in many remarkable films and played the titular character in MS Dhoni - The Untold Story.
His last film Dil Bechara, an adaptation of The Fault in Our Stars, was released posthumously.
