Prof. Metri begins a second term after leading IIM Nagpur's rise in national rankings and driving growth in academics, executive education and institutional expansion.

Prof. Bhimaraya Metri has been reappointed as the Director of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur for a second five-year term, extending his leadership at the institute after a tenure marked by expansion in academics, executive education and institutional development.
During his first term, IIM Nagpur recorded significant gains in national management rankings. The institute climbed from 43rd in the NIRF Management Rankings 2023 to 31st in 2024, before entering the top 25 in 2025. It also secured the 15th position in the IIRF MBA Rankings 2026, further strengthening its standing among India's leading business schools.

The institute also expanded its executive education portfolio by introducing postgraduate certificate programmes, Management Development Programmes (MDPs) and customised learning initiatives for industry professionals.
Under Prof. Metri's leadership, IIM Nagpur initiated plans for a new campus at Moshi in Pune, aimed at strengthening executive education, research and industry collaboration. The institute also advanced sustainability initiatives, including plans for a 2 MW solar power project, green infrastructure and water conservation measures as part of its vision to develop a net-zero campus.
His tenure also witnessed growth in research output, consultancy projects, entrepreneurship initiatives and collaborations with industry, government agencies and international institutions. The institute said these efforts have strengthened academic programmes, corporate engagement and experiential learning opportunities.
Before taking charge at IIM Nagpur, Prof. Metri served as Director of IIM Tiruchirappalli and held key academic leadership positions at the International Management Institute (IMI), New Delhi, Management Development Institute (MDI), Gurugram, and the L&T Institute of Project Management, Vadodara.
Widely regarded as an institution builder, he has played a significant role in advancing management education through academic leadership, research and industry engagement.
With his reappointment, Prof. Metri is set to continue steering IIM Nagpur's growth with a focus on academic excellence, innovation, sustainability, global collaborations, research and stronger industry linkages, as the institute looks to further consolidate its position among India's leading business schools.
