Navodaya admission 2027: NVS opens Class 9, 11 registration, check eligibility, dates and details

The Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) has opened the registration process for lateral entry admissions to Classes 9 and 11 at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) for 2027. Eligible students can submit applications online until Sept 30, 2026.

The selection test for admission to both Class 9 and Class 11 against vacant seats is scheduled for April 10, 2027. The examination will be conducted at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas in the concerned districts.

Students seeking admission can apply through the official NVS admission portal. The result of the Lateral Entry Selection Test (LEST) 2027 is likely to be released by May or June 2027, after which candidates will be able to check their scorecards through the application portal.

Class 9 admission eligibility

For Class 9 lateral entry admission, applicants must be bona fide residents of the district where they are seeking admission. They must also be studying in Class 8 during the 2026-27 academic session at a government-recognized school located in the same district where the JNV is situated and where admission is being sought.

According to the official notification, candidates applying for Class 9 must have been born between May 1, 2012, and July 31, 2014.

The applicant's district of residence and the district in which the student studied in Class 7 must be the same. Students who passed Class 7 in an earlier academic session will not be eligible to apply.

Class 11 admission eligibility

For Class 11 lateral entry, only Indian nationals studying in Class 10 in India are eligible to apply. Candidates must be studying in Class 10 during the 2026-27 academic session at a government-recognized school.

Applicants must have been born between June 1, 2010, and July 31, 2012, according to the official notice.

Students who passed Class 10 before the 2026-27 academic session will not be eligible for admission through LEST 2027.

Eligibility for Class 11 admission will also depend on vacant seats, along with the subjects or streams available at the respective JNV. Candidates have been advised to check the official LEST 2027 prospectus for detailed age, academic and district-wise eligibility requirements.

How to apply for NVS LEST 2027

Students who meet the eligibility requirements can complete the registration process online by following these steps:

1. Visit the official NVS admission website at cbseitms.nic.in.
2. Select the link for LEST 2027 registration.
3. Register by entering the required personal and other details.
4. Log in and complete the application form.
5. Upload the required documents, photograph and signature, wherever applicable.
6. Review the information entered in the form.
7. Pay the application fee, if applicable.
8. Submit the application and save the confirmation page for future reference.

NVS LEST 2027 important dates

The registration deadline for the LEST 2027 is Sept 30, 2026. The selection test for both Class 9 and Class 11 is scheduled for April 10, 2027.

NVS education and fees

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas are affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Education at JNVs is provided free of cost and includes board and lodging, uniforms and textbooks.

According to the official information, ₹600 per month is collected from students in Classes 9 to 12 toward the Vidyalaya Vikas Nidhi (VVN). Candidates should refer to the official admission notification for applicable application fee and payment instructions, if any.
