A BTech Computer Engineering student of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has secured a pre-placement offer (PPO) from global payments company Visa with an annual compensation of ₹35 lakh, marking a significant early-career opportunity for the 2027 batch student.

Mohd Shamoon, a student of JMI’s BTech Computer Engineering programme, earned the offer after successfully completing a summer internship at Visa. He was selected for the internship through an online assessment and interview process and received a monthly stipend of ₹90,000.

Shamoon’s performance during the internship led to the PPO, which offers him a pathway to a full-time role after completing his degree, subject to the company’s terms and conditions.

The placement was facilitated by JMI’s University Placement Cell (UPC), which coordinates recruitment and internship opportunities for students across the university.

A PPO is an offer made to an intern before graduation, allowing the company to consider the student for full-time employment after completion of the academic programme. Such offers are generally based on the intern’s performance and the organisation’s recruitment requirements.

JMI’s Faculty of Engineering and Technology was established in 1985, although the university’s engineering education dates back further. Its first engineering programme, a Bachelor of Engineering course in Civil Engineering, was introduced in 1978.

Over the years, the faculty has expanded its academic offerings to include disciplines such as Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communication, Computer Engineering, Environmental Sciences, and Applied Sciences and Humanities.

JMI currently offers several BTech programmes at the undergraduate level, including Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering (Construction Technology), Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics and Artificial Intelligence, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electronics (VLSI Design and Technology), Computer Engineering, and Computer Science and Engineering (Data Sciences). Some programmes are offered under the self-financing mode.

The Department of Computer Engineering, established in 2000, offers a regular eight-semester BTech Computer Engineering programme covering areas such as programming, computer systems, software development, networking, data analysis, artificial intelligence and machine learning.

The department also offers a self-financed BTech programme in Computer Science and Engineering with a specialisation in Data Sciences.

JMI said Shamoon’s ₹35 lakh PPO reflects the outcome of his internship experience and performance in the company’s selection process, highlighting the opportunities available to students pursuing technology-focused programmes at the university.
