As part of the initiative, a Nodal Indigenisation Centre has been set up at Avadi in Chennai to tap into the region’s industrial base and strengthen the Tamil Nadu defense corridor as a hub for manufacturing and technology development.

The partnership will work on identifying operational challenges in Army equipment and systems, co-developing indigenous solutions and prototypes, and carrying out technical validation and field testing to ensure readiness for deployment.

It will also focus on key areas such as sensing systems, cyber-physical systems, and autonomous technologies, with participation from startups and academic institutions.

The Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers will provide operational inputs and validation support to ensure practical applicability.

"India's journey towards self-reliance in defense technologies requires strong synergy between the armed forces, academia, and innovation ecosystems. This partnership is a significant step towards accelerating indigenous solutions that are technologically robust and operationally relevant,” said M J Shankar Raman, CEO of IITM Pravartak Technologies Foundation.

Maj Gen Lalit Kapoor, Commander, Base Workshop Group (EME), Indian Army, said, "By working closely with IIT-M Pravartak, the Corps of EME aims to enhance operational readiness, upgrade legacy weapon platforms with advanced technologies, and develop niche capabilities for future roles, while significantly reducing dependence on external sources."
