IIT Kanpur expands digital training to 900 UP school teachers

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur has expanded its Digital Literacy & Computational Thinking Concepts for Teachers (DLCCAI) programme to train 900 secondary school teachers across Uttar Pradesh, with a focus on helping educators bring digital tools and emerging technologies into everyday classroom teaching.

The initiative is being conducted in collaboration with the Uttar Pradesh Government and the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT).

900 teachers from 75 districts

The programme will cover 900 teachers from all 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh. Participants will be trained in digital literacy, computational thinking, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and technology-enabled teaching.

The eight-week blended programme will be delivered in six batches of 150 participants each. It will combine classroom sessions at IIT Kanpur with online learning, mentoring and hands-on assignments, giving teachers an opportunity to apply what they learn to academic work.

AI, Python and robotics among key focus areas

The training will introduce teachers to a range of digital tools and emerging technologies, including cybersecurity, Scratch, Python, AI, EdTech and robotics.

The focus will be on practical applications, enabling teachers to use these technologies not only to build their own digital skills but also to make classroom learning more interactive and technology-driven.

Programme builds on training of 750 primary teachers

The latest initiative builds on the earlier training of 750 primary school teachers under the DLCCAI programme. The training helped enable technology-supported learning for more than 10,000 students.

The DLCCAI curriculum has also been incorporated into SCERT's Class 6–8 textbooks, giving the programme a wider reach across the state's school education system. It is estimated to benefit around 48 lakh students across Uttar Pradesh.

The initiative has also highlighted how teachers who underwent training last year have taken their digital skills beyond the classroom, using what they learned to develop technology-based activities and create a wider impact in their schools and communities.

Aligned with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the programme seeks to equip teachers with the skills and confidence needed to bring digital and computational concepts into classroom teaching.
