The program offers 6- to 9-month internships in top companies with real workplace exposure, requires at least half the duration in job settings, and provides ₹9,000 monthly support to participants.

The Ministry of Corporate Affairs has rolled out the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme to create structured internship opportunities for young candidates in leading companies, the University Grants Commission said in a statement.
The initiative is designed to give participants exposure to real-world business environments across sectors and roles.

First announced during the 2024 to 2025 budget session, the scheme targets final-year undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as graduates and postgraduates, offering them industry-linked training through PMIS.
Internships under the program will last 6 or 9 months, depending on the sector and company requirements. At least half of this period must involve hands-on work experience in actual job settings rather than classroom-based learning.
Applicants must be Indian nationals between 18 and 25 years of age at the time of application and should not be engaged in full-time employment.
In terms of educational qualifications, candidates who have completed high school or higher secondary education, hold ITI certificates or polytechnic diplomas, or possess undergraduate degrees such as BA, BSc, BCom, BCA, BBA, BPharma, BE, or BTech are eligible. Postgraduates with degrees including MA, MSc, MCom, MCA, or MTech can also apply.
Candidates should not be enrolled in full-time education. However, those pursuing online or distance learning programs, as well as students in the final year of undergraduate or postgraduate courses, are eligible.
Selected interns will receive a monthly stipend of ₹9,000 for the duration of the internship. Applications can be submitted through the official PMIS internship website.
