Talks focused on cooperation in green hydrogen, battery storage technologies, and carbon markets to advance energy transition and climate action

India and the European Union (EU) have held a Strategic Dialogue on Clean Energy as part of their broader partnership on climate action and sustainable development. The dialogue comes at a time when both sides are accelerating efforts to meet their climate commitments and reduce dependence on fossil fuels while ensuring energy security.
The dialogue focused on enhancing cooperation in green hydrogen, which is seen as a critical fuel for decarbonising hard-to-abate sectors such as steel, cement and transport. Both sides discussed technology transfer, investment partnerships and harmonisation of standards to scale up hydrogen production and use.
Another major area was battery storage and clean mobility, with emphasis on strengthening supply chains, research collaboration and recycling of critical minerals. Discussions also covered cooperation on carbon markets, including alignment of carbon pricing mechanisms and exchange of best practices to improve market transparency and credibility.

For India, the partnership supports its energy transition goals, including achieving net-zero emissions by 2070 and expanding renewable energy capacity. Access to European technology, finance and expertise can accelerate deployment of advanced clean energy solutions. For the EU, collaboration with India strengthens supply chain resilience and expands markets for clean technologies.
The dialogue reinforces India–EU climate diplomacy, demonstrating shared commitment to the Paris Agreement and multilateral climate action. It also enhances coordination in global forums on energy transition and climate finance.
The strategic dialogue is expected to translate into concrete projects, joint research initiatives and investment frameworks, deepening the India–EU clean energy partnership and contributing to global climate goals.
