Talks focus on strengthening civil nuclear collaboration and supporting India’s growing energy needs

India and Canada have continued discussions on uranium supply to support India’s expanding civil nuclear energy programme. The cooperation reflects the growing strategic partnership between the two countries in the field of clean and reliable energy.
The supply of uranium is crucial for India’s nuclear power plants, which play an important role in diversifying the country’s energy mix. Stable uranium imports will support the expansion of nuclear energy capacity and help meet rising electricity demand.

The cooperation also aligns with international nuclear safety and regulatory frameworks, ensuring that nuclear materials are used strictly for peaceful purposes. India’s nuclear programme operates under global standards set by organizations such as the International Atomic Energy Agency.
For India, strengthening uranium cooperation is vital for improving long-term energy security while reducing dependence on fossil fuels. At the same time, the partnership further deepens bilateral relations with Canada in areas such as energy, technology, and strategic cooperation.
