CBSE to reconduct cancelled Class 12 exams for West Asia students

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will reconduct Class 12 board examinations for students in West Asian countries whose results were prepared under a special assessment scheme after their original examinations were cancelled due to the prevailing war situation, officials said.

The board had cancelled Class 12 examinations in seven Middle Eastern countries — Bahrain, Iran, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE — covering 40 subjects, including 20 academic papers.

The decision was taken after the CBSE notified a special assessment scheme on March 27 to prepare results for candidates affected by the cancellation of examinations.

“Accordingly, results for all regular candidates from West Asian countries were declared on May 13 along with other Class 12 candidates in India and abroad,” said CBSE Examination Controller Sanyam Bhardwaj.

Results of private candidates from the affected countries were also subsequently declared under the same assessment scheme.

The scheme had provided that students dissatisfied with their results could be given an opportunity to appear for examinations in subjects whose papers could not be conducted.

The CBSE has now decided to offer that opportunity to all eligible Class 12 candidates in West Asian countries whose results were declared under the special assessment scheme.

Students will be able to appear in subjects of their choice among the 40 papers that were earlier cancelled. The marks obtained in the fresh examination will be treated as final and will replace the earlier performance.

The board said the examination dates and detailed date sheet will be announced after the examination forms are submitted.

Eligible candidates will have to submit their examination forms directly to the CBSE. No examination fee will be charged, while examination centres will remain unchanged.

The board has also clarified that there will be no post-result declaration facility for these examinations.

The move gives students affected by the cancellation of their board examinations an opportunity to have their performance assessed through written examinations rather than relying solely on the special assessment scheme.
