The incident took place on the night of June 17 when Beeda Madhuri, daughter of Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Beeda Masthan Rao, allegedly ran over a 24-year-old man sleeping on a pavement near Besant Nagar in Chennai.

The train was travelling from Agartala to Sealdah when the accident occurred around 9 am. As a result, long-distance train services have been temporarily stopped. It has been raining heavily since morning in Siliguri, impacting the rescue operation.

Following incidents where train drivers ignored speed limits on a bridge under repair, the Railway Board has set up a committee to investigate.
