Modi-led ruling party introduced two bills to amend the Constitution facilitating simultaneous elections across India, which was vehemently opposed by 198 members over concerns that the changed law would undermine democratic processes in the country.
Bharat Gogavale said the three Mahayuti allies — BJP, Shiv Sena and NCP — are currently holding talks regarding crucial home portfolio allocation. “When Devendra Fadnavis was the deputy CM in the previous Shinde-led government, he also held the home department,” he said.
Former chief minister Eknath Shinde and NCP head Ajit Pawar are expected to take oath alongside Fadnavis as his deputies at Mumbai’s Azad Maidan at 5.30 PM. Besides Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and about a dozen Union Ministers will be among some 42,000 attendees.
Gandhi said that the police action went against the Constitution and his rights as the Leader of Opposition. "The police did not even accept my request to go alone with them," he said.
The Shiv Sena (UBT) chief emphasized countering claims of abandoning Hindutva ideology while preparing for local body polls, urging unity and introspection to rebuild his party's position after the recent electoral setback in Maharashtra.
Current caretaker chief minister Eknath Shinde will likely be be sworn in alongside NCP leader Ajit Pawar as deputy CM at a ceremony in Mumbai on Dec 5, a senior BJP leader said, putting to an end days of suspense following the Mahayuti alliance's landslide victory in the assembly polls.
The incident happened while Kejriwal was walking with supporters in south Delhi's Malviya Nagar neighborhood.
