Reports claim Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei injured during US-Israel strikes

Reports have emerged suggesting that Iran’s newly appointed Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei may have been injured during the early phase of the ongoing military strikes carried out by the United States and Israel against Iranian targets.

According to media reports citing sources familiar with the situation, Khamenei reportedly suffered a fractured foot along with minor injuries including bruises and cuts during the first day of the strikes.

The incident has fuelled speculation that the Iranian leader may have been caught in an attack that targeted senior leadership facilities in Tehran.

Some reports have also suggested the possibility of an assassination attempt during the bombardment, though these claims remain unverified.

Iranian authorities have not officially confirmed whether Khamenei was injured, and there has been no public statement addressing the rumours about his condition.

Additional reports from regional officials indicate that Khamenei may have sustained injuries to his limbs during the strike that killed several members of his family, including his father, former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, who died in the initial wave of attacks.

The leadership transition came shortly after the Feb 28 airstrikes, when the clerical body responsible for selecting Iran’s supreme authority appointed Mojtaba Khamenei as the country’s new leader. His appointment marked a significant moment in Iran’s political landscape as the nation faces intense military confrontation with Israel and the United States.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), one of the most powerful institutions in Iran, has publicly pledged loyalty to the new leader. Analysts say the group’s support will be crucial in consolidating Khamenei’s authority during the ongoing conflict.

The reports about Khamenei’s injuries have also raised questions about his absence from public appearances since assuming office. Iranian media have described him as a “war-wounded veteran,” though officials insist he remains active despite the injuries.

The US-Israel military campaign against Iran began with coordinated strikes on Feb 28 targeting military and strategic infrastructure across the country.

The conflict has since expanded across the Middle East, with missile and drone attacks reported in several countries and growing fears of a wider regional war.
