Deshmukh was returning from a meeting at Narkhed village in the Katol Assembly Constituency, where his son Salil is running for state assembly on the NCP-SP ticket against BJP's Charansingh Thakur.

Anil Deshmukh, a former Maharashtra minister and Nationalist Congress Party - Sharadchandra Pawar (NCP-SP) politician, was injured when his car was attacked with stones near Nagpur.
Deshmukh has been sent to a neighboring hospital for further treatment.

Around 8 pm, Deshmukh was returning from a meeting at Narkhed village in the Katol Assembly Constituency, where his son Salil is running for state assembly on the NCP-SP ticket against BJP's Charansingh Thakur, when the incident happened near Belphata on the Jalalkheda Road near Katol.
Deshmukh, who was injured during the incident, was immediately taken to Katol Civil Hospital, according to police.
"An investigation has begun. Police are trying to identify those responsible for the attack," said Poddar.
Supriya Sule, NCP-SP leader and MP, reacted to the attack, calling it a regrettable and outrageous incident.
"We all condemn this attack. This state has never had the mentality to attack in this manner during elections. This state is a democratic state. But during the time of the BJP, the law and order situation in the state, especially in Nagpur district, has deteriorated, and gangsters have gotten free rein."
Sule requested that the attackers and their masterminds be properly probed and held accountable.
“A cowardly attack on senior NCP leader Anil Deshmukh ji by miscreants is deeply unfortunate and condemnable. Maharashtra has always upheld democratic values, but such incidents show the decline of law & order. We demand swift action to arrest the attackers & their masterminds. BJP’s failure is glaring!” said SP MLA Rais Shaikh.
“The attack on former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh is shocking. Violence has absolutely no place in our politics or society. Urge authorities to take swift action against the perpetrators,” said AAP Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha.
