Escalating conflict and 50% spike in global oil prices push commercial gas rates sharply higher, while domestic LPG remains unchanged.

In a sharp fallout of the intensifying conflict in West Asia, state-owned oil companies have raised the prices of commercial LPG cylinders across India, delivering a fresh cost blow to businesses. The price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder has been hiked by ₹195.5 in Delhi, taking the new retail rate to ₹2,078.50.
The revision, announced on April 1, also impacts 5-kg mini cylinders, which have become costlier by ₹51. Across metros, the increase in 19-kg cylinders ranges between ₹195 and ₹218, reflecting mounting pressure from global energy markets.

Following the hike, a 19-kg commercial cylinder will now cost ₹2,078.50 in Delhi and ₹2,031 in Mumbai, both witnessing an identical jump of ₹195.5. In Kolkata and Chennai, prices have risen more steeply—by ₹218 and ₹203—pushing rates to ₹2,208 and ₹2,246, respectively.
The surge is closely tied to the deepening geopolitical crisis in West Asia, which has severely disrupted global energy supply chains. Since the outbreak of the conflict, international crude oil prices have surged by nearly 50%, driven in large part by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz—a vital artery for global oil transit.
With supply routes under strain and input costs soaring, oil marketing companies were compelled to pass on the burden to commercial consumers. The hike is expected to significantly impact hotels, restaurants, and small businesses that rely heavily on LPG.
Domestic households, however, have been shielded for now. The price of a 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder remains unchanged at ₹913 in Delhi, following a ₹60 increase implemented on March 7.
Public sector oil giants—including Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Bharat Petroleum (BPCL), and Hindustan Petroleum (HPCL)—revise LPG prices on the first of every month, based on international benchmarks and currency fluctuations.
Meanwhile, petrol and diesel prices continue to remain static across the country. In Delhi, petrol is priced at ₹94.72 per litre and diesel at ₹87.62, with no revisions since the ₹2 per-litre cut announced in March last year.
