In a shocking incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur, a 48-year-old man allegedly killed his 11-year-old twin daughters by slitting their throats inside his home before calling the police to confess to the crime.
The accused, identified as Shashi Ranjan Mishra, is a medical representative and was arrested from the spot after police reached the residence following his call.

According to police, the incident took place early Sunday at the family’s flat in the Naubasta area. Officers found the bodies of the two girls lying in a pool of blood, with deep injuries to their necks.
Mishra lived with his wife Reshma, their twin daughters Riddhi and Siddhi, and a six-year-old son. Preliminary investigation suggests that the crime occurred while other family members were in the house.
Police said the accused himself alerted authorities by calling the emergency helpline and stating that he had killed his daughters. He was present at the scene when officers arrived and was immediately taken into custody.
The motive behind the crime is still under investigation. According to the victim’s mother, the accused had been suffering from depression and had exhibited unusual behaviour, including installing multiple CCTV cameras inside the house and restricting access to certain rooms.
She also told investigators that her husband had expressed suspicions about her and had earlier made statements about living separately with different children.
Police have sent the bodies for postmortem and are examining all possible angles, including the accused’s mental state and domestic circumstances leading up to the incident.
Senior officials said further details will emerge as the investigation progresses.
