India is set to expand defence cooperation with Israel through potential procurement of advanced drones, missile systems and laser-based air defence technology, with key agreements likely to be discussed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit.

India is preparing to acquire advanced defence systems from Israel, including drones, missiles and laser-based air defence technology, sources said, as relations between the two countries deepen ahead of a likely visit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Israel.
The discussions are expected to include signing of memorandums of understanding (MoUs) to further defence cooperation and capability building.

Officials familiar with the matter said the potential acquisitions will span advanced Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), precision-strike missiles and laser-based air defence systems that are being developed by Israel’s defence industry. These systems are seen as bolstering India’s military readiness and enhancing its technological edge.
India and Israel have a long history of defence collaboration, with joint development and procurement of key platforms including drones, anti-tank systems and electronic warfare technology.
The proposed deals are likely to build on this foundation and expand cooperation into emerging domains such as directed energy weapons (DEWs).
Officials said that New Delhi’s interest in Israeli defence technologies reflects evolving security challenges and the need to diversify sources of advanced military hardware. Israel’s defence industry is considered among the most innovative globally, particularly in UAVs, missile systems and cutting-edge air defence solutions.
Defence analysts noted that the potential acquisitions could provide India with enhanced surveillance, targeting and defensive capabilities, especially along contested borders and in maritime domains.
While specifics of the systems under consideration were not immediately disclosed, the inclusion of laser-based defence systems marks an interest in next-generation technology.
The discussions on defence cooperation are expected to culminate in the signing of MoUs during Prime Minister Modi’s upcoming visit to Israel, details of which are being finalised by both governments.
These agreements may formalise technology transfers, joint research and co-production arrangements, alongside procurement contracts.
Officials said that broader strategic cooperation, including defence industry collaboration and innovation partnerships, will be on the agenda, reflecting a shared interest in responding to regional security dynamics and future threats.
