At least 17 people have died in separate fire incidents in Delhi and Indore, while additional blazes in Ahmedabad and Chandigarh have triggered fresh concerns over urban fire safety and enforcement lapses.

A series of fire incidents across multiple cities has left at least 17 people dead, with fatalities reported from Delhi and Indore, even as separate blazes in Ahmedabad and Chandigarh kept emergency services on high alert.
In Delhi, a fire in a residential building led to multiple deaths, with victims reported among those who were unable to escape in time. Firefighters and rescue teams were deployed to control the blaze and carry out evacuation operations. Authorities said an inquiry has been initiated to determine the cause of the fire.

In Indore, another fatal incident was reported after a blaze broke out in a building, taking the combined death toll from the two cities to 17. Officials said firefighting operations were carried out to contain the fire, and a probe is underway to establish how the incident unfolded.
Separately, fires were reported in Ahmedabad and Chandigarh. While these incidents did not result in a similar number of casualties, they caused damage to property and required swift response from local fire departments. Officials said the situations were brought under control before they could escalate further.
The incidents, occurring within a short span, have once again raised concerns about fire safety preparedness in urban areas. Authorities are examining whether there were lapses in safety compliance, including fire exits, equipment availability, and adherence to building norms.
Officials said detailed investigations are underway in all cases, and further information will be made available after preliminary findings are compiled.
