IIT Madras opens GATE 2027 registration, introduces Robotics and Automation paper

The examination will feature 30 test papers, while revised syllabi and paper codes will apply to Biotechnology, Textile Engineering, Engineering Sciences, Humanities, Social Sciences and Life Sciences.

IIT Madras opens GATE 2027 registration, introduces Robotics and Automation paper

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras has opened applications for GATE 2027, with candidates able to register for the examination through the official website, gate2027.iitm.ac.in.

The registration process began on Sept 2, 2026. Candidates can submit applications without a late fee until Sept 27. Those applying after the regular deadline can register until Oct 5 by paying the applicable late fee.

The application correction facility will be available from Oct 14 to Oct 21.

GATE 2027 is scheduled to be conducted on Feb 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21, 2027. The notification regarding city allotment is expected to be issued on Jan 4. IIT Madras has not yet announced the date for releasing admit cards.

The result is scheduled to be declared on March 19, 2027.

GATE 2027 will introduce Robotics and Automation (RA) as a new test paper. With the addition of RA, the examination will now offer 30 test papers.

The institute has also revised portions of the syllabus for select papers. Changes have been made to the Biotechnology paper, while sectional paper codes have been revised for Textile Engineering and Fibre Science, Engineering Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Life Sciences.

Candidates can opt to appear for one or two test papers. Those selecting two papers must choose from the combinations approved by the examination authorities.

Students enrolled in the third year or above of an undergraduate degree program can apply for GATE 2027.

Candidates who have already completed an eligible government-approved degree in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts or Humanities are also eligible.

Applicants holding eligible degrees from institutions outside India can apply subject to the conditions prescribed by the examination authorities.

For Indian nationals, registration through DigiLocker is mandatory. IIT Madras has advised applicants to verify and update their DigiLocker accounts before starting the GATE 2027 application process.
