Delhi University ramps up anti-ragging safeguards, sets July 28 deadline for colleges

Delhi University (DU) has rolled out a comprehensive anti-ragging plan for the upcoming 2026 admissions, directing all affiliated colleges, departments, and hostels to put preventive measures in place by July 28.

As part of the initiative, the university will establish two Joint Control Rooms to monitor complaints and coordinate swift action against incidents of ragging.

The measures were finalized during an online meeting on July 20 attended by college principals, hostel administrators, Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) representatives, and senior officials from the Delhi Police.

To strengthen enforcement, DU has instructed every college and hostel to constitute Anti-Ragging Committees and Anti-Ragging Squads in accordance with University Grants Commission (UGC) regulations and Supreme Court directives.

Institutions have also been asked to intensify vigilance across campuses, particularly in hostel premises and residential facilities where newly admitted students are likely to reside.

The university has directed colleges to launch awareness drives by installing bilingual anti-ragging signboards at prominent locations. It reiterated that any form of ragging, whether physical, verbal, or psychological, is prohibited and will invite disciplinary action.

Students seeking admission this year will also have to submit an anti-ragging undertaking along with a similar declaration from their parents or guardians as part of the enrollment process.

According to an official statement, DU has instructed all colleges, departments, and hostels to strictly enforce university regulations related to discipline, student welfare, and anti-ragging.

They have also been asked to comply with applicable university ordinances and the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013.

The university has further directed institutions to prominently display anti-ragging helpline numbers and complaint channels to ensure students can quickly report any incident.

Supporting the university's preparedness, the Delhi Police has assured additional security during the admission season.

Women police personnel in plain clothes will be deployed inside university campuses and outside colleges, while prompt action will be taken against anyone found engaging in ragging or eve-teasing.

DU has asked all affiliated institutions to complete the prescribed arrangements by July 28 to ensure a secure and welcoming campus environment before the new academic session begins.
