Delhi govt sets one-month deadline for coaching centers to meet safety norms

The Delhi government has directed coaching centers across the capital to comply with mandatory safety standards within a month, warning that institutions failing to meet the requirements will not be allowed to continue operations.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced that the government is preparing a comprehensive regulatory law aimed at strengthening oversight, improving accountability, and enhancing student safety at coaching institutes.

“One month. There is a time of one month, get all the safety regulations. All the coaching institutes running in Delhi, be it 900 or 1000, the number doesn’t matter, what matters is the lives of the children studying there, their safety and security,” she said in a video message.

Gupta also urged students to report any safety lapses or negligence at coaching centers through email, phone, or messages so that authorities can take appropriate action.

The move follows a series of fire incidents at coaching institutes, including the recent fire at a coaching center in Lucknow that claimed 15 lives.

Earlier this week, Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood ordered a citywide safety inspection of coaching centers and said the government is working on a stronger regulatory framework for the sector.

The chief minister said the government remains committed to protecting the safety and well-being of every student studying in coaching institutes across the city.
