Satellite to support agriculture management, forest monitoring, and disaster response

The Indian Space Research Organisation has announced plans to launch a new Earth Observation Satellite aimed at strengthening environmental monitoring and resource management in India.
The proposed satellite will help monitor agricultural patterns, forest cover, and natural disasters using advanced remote sensing technology. Such satellites provide high-resolution images and data that assist authorities in planning crop management, tracking deforestation, and responding quickly to disasters such as floods, cyclones, and landslides.

The mission will also contribute to climate monitoring and sustainable resource management by providing reliable data for policymakers and researchers. Satellite-based observations are increasingly important for assessing environmental changes and supporting evidence-based decision-making.
Experts believe that the new satellite will further strengthen India’s space-based governance capabilities, enabling better monitoring of natural resources and improved disaster preparedness across the country.
