Inaugurated by: The Government of India, Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying (DAHD).
Requirement:
Up to this point, the majority of animal transfusions in India were performed in urgent situations without established protocols.
Absence of a nationwide system for donor evaluation, blood classification, preservation, or registry.
Essential for addressing trauma, anemia, surgical blood loss, infectious diseases, and bleeding disorders in animals.
Main Characteristics:
Blood typing and cross-matching essential to avoid negative reactions.
Criteria for donor eligibility: health assessments, immunization prerequisites.
Encouragement of voluntary contributions through a Donor Rights Charter.
Veterinary blood banks: infrastructure that complies with biosafety regulations and is state-regulated.
Integration of One Health to address zoonotic disease threats.
National Digital Veterinary Blood Bank Network: real-time stock monitoring, electronic records, emergency hotline.
System for reporting negative side effects.
Educational units for veterinary learners and practitioners.
Upcoming advancements: portable blood collection units, storage of uncommon blood types, apps for matching donors and recipients.
