What does ERASR stand for?
The Extended Range Anti-Submarine Rocket (ERASR) is a cutting-edge underwater weapon system created locally by DRDO to engage enemy submarines.

It can be deployed from Indian naval vessels fitted with Indigenous Rocket Launchers (IRLs).
Created by: Created by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
Aim: To provide Indian naval forces with long-range, high-accuracy capability to counter underwater threats utilizing domestic technology and lessen dependence on foreign defense imports.
Main Attributes of ERASR:
Twin Rocket Motor System: Enables effective targeting of both short- and long-range underwater objectives.
Electronic Time Fuze: Completely developed in India, guaranteeing accurate timed explosion when approaching submarine hazards.
Superior Operational Precision: Demonstrated reliability in effectiveness during actual naval combat scenarios.
Warhead Dependability: All trial scenarios had successful detonation of warheads, validating operational readiness.
Compatible Launch Platforms: Can be launched from frontline naval vessels utilizing Indian-manufactured rocket systems.
Notable moments from the Sea Trials:
Seventeen rockets were launched from INS Kavaratti under simulated battle scenarios.
Tests assessed:
Range accuracy
Fuze timing dependability
Effectiveness of warhead explosions
The Indian Navy verified that all performance targets were met.
Importance of ERASR:
Enhances the Indian Navy's anti-submarine warfare abilities in the Indian Ocean Region.
Encourages Atmanirbharta (self-sufficiency) in advanced defence production.
Effective allocation of the defense budget by substituting expensive imports with expandable local solutions.
Shows DRDO’s innovation in developing combat-ready technologies tailored to Indian maritime requirements.
