The Union Education Minister of India launched India’s inaugural overseas Atal Innovation Centre at the IIT Delhi–Abu Dhabi campus during his trip to the UAE

What is it?
A leading innovation center set up outside India as part of the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM).

Inaugurated in: September 2025, at the IIT Delhi–Abu Dhabi campus.
Aim:
To encourage creativity, investigations, and business initiative among students and emerging professionals.
To enhance cooperation between India and the UAE in education, sustainability, and technology-based solutions.
Functions:
Nurture start-ups and guide innovators.
Supply facilities and laboratories for advanced research.
Promote collaborative student exchanges, educator training, and skill development initiatives.
Serve as a conduit for international knowledge exchange and innovation networks.
Regarding the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM):
What is it?
A major program by the Government of India aimed at fostering a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship.
Entity: Executed by NITI Aayog.
Inaugurated in:
Objective: To create an ecosystem centered on innovation within schools, universities, and industries.
Main Characteristics:
Atal Tinkering Labs (ATLs):
Schools establish labs for students (Class 6–12) to explore robotics, IoT, 3D printing, and electronics.
More than 10,000 laboratories set up throughout India.
Atal Incubation Centers (AICs):
University and corporate business incubators.
Assist start-ups through mentoring, financing, networking, and resources.
72 active AICs facilitating over 3,500 start-ups and creating more than 32,000 jobs.
Business Development Framework:
Concentrate on various fields such as HealthTech, FinTech, AgriTech, EdTech, Food Processing, Drone & Space Technology, and AR/VR.
More than 1000 start-ups led by women have received support.
