Indian Railways introduces new weekly Amrit Bharat Express linking Udhna and Brahmapur via Nagpur

A new weekly Amrit Bharat Express service is being introduced between Udhna (Surat, Gujarat) and Brahmapur (Odisha), passing through Nagpur.
The train (No. 09022) will depart Udhna on Sundays at 7:40 AM, reaching Brahmapur Monday night, and return (Train No. 19021/19022) leaves Brahmapur late Monday night, arriving Udhna Wednesday morning.

It will have 22 LHB coaches: 8 Sleeper class, 11 General class, 1 Pantry car and 2 SLRs.
Key route segments traverse Gujarat, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Odisha, connecting Vidarbha region via Nagpur.
Background & Analysis:
Amrit Bharat Express is a scheme by Indian Railways to enhance unreserved, affordable connectivity over long distances with modern coaches (LHB) and amenities.
The route via Nagpur addresses connectivity gaps in central India, especially for passengers moving between western and eastern corridors without needing transfers.
For regions like Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh, better connectivity supports economic integration, mobility, tourism, and ease for migrant movement.
Implications / Way forward:
The train would lighten congestion on parallel routes and provide alternate travel options.
Success depends on punctuality, maintenance, track capacity, and seamless operations.
Monitoring demand data will help in planning further frequency or doubling.
Complementary infrastructure (stations, last-mile connectivity) must support its operation.
