The move aims to attract reputed universities under new law, offering transparent policies and opportunities to build campuses, boost research, and position the region as a competitive academic destination.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has invited educational institutions across India to invest in the Union Territory’s higher education sector and collaborate in developing it as an academic hub.
He made the remarks while interacting with a delegation of education sector representatives in Bengaluru, pointing to opportunities created under the newly notified J&K Private University Act.

The J&K Private Universities Bill, 2026, was recently passed by the Legislative Assembly during the Budget Session.
Abdullah said the new framework enables reputed institutions to set up campuses in the Union Territory, aiming to build a modern, inclusive, and globally competitive education ecosystem.
He also assured a transparent and investor-friendly environment to attract students, researchers, and academic collaborations from across India and overseas.
