The phased assessment will cover around 10,000 counselors using an AI-based platform, evaluating skills and ethics, with schools required to ensure participation based on official nominations.

CBSE has rolled out an online remote invigilation exam for school counselors to standardize evaluation and strengthen student support systems across affiliated institutions.
In a notification issued on March 20, 2026, the board said the proctored assessment will be introduced in phases to evaluate and certify about 10,000 counseling and wellness teachers. The first phase of the assessment process began in February.

The board said that the evaluation will move beyond conventional testing by assessing practical competencies, ethical awareness, and the ability to support students’ mental well-being.
The examination will be conducted through an AI-enabled platform called DIGI EXAM to ensure a secure and transparent process with standardized assessment practices.
CBSE said the initiative is aimed at building a “future-ready assessment ecosystem” focused on digital delivery, integrity in evaluation, and wider access through remote participation.
Schools have been asked to ensure participation of counselors as nominated by the board. Nominations will be based on data available on the OASIS portal, and institutions have been advised to keep counselor details updated.
Separately, CBSE has also directed schools to implement menstrual hygiene measures in line with a recent Supreme Court ruling that recognized menstrual health as part of the right to life.
