Slovakia conferred the Order of the White Double Cross (1st Class) on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, recognising his contribution to strengthening bilateral ties and international cooperation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred Slovakia's highest national honour, the Order of the White Double Cross (1st Class), during his visit to Bratislava on June 15.
The award was presented by Slovak President Peter Pellegrini in recognition of Modi's contribution to strengthening India-Slovakia relations and advancing cooperation between the two countries.

The honour marks the 33rd international award conferred on Modi by a foreign nation during his tenure as Prime Minister. Slovak authorities said the award recognises his role in deepening bilateral engagement and enhancing India's partnership with Slovakia.
The award ceremony took place during Modi's visit to Slovakia, the first by an Indian Prime Minister since the country gained independence in 1993. During the visit, Modi held talks with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico and President Pellegrini on expanding cooperation across a range of sectors.
The two countries elevated their relationship to a Comprehensive Partnership, signalling a broader framework for collaboration in areas including defence and security, artificial intelligence, space, trade, innovation and civil nuclear energy.
Addressing the media after bilateral discussions, Modi described India and Slovakia as partners with "shared trust, shared priorities and a shared future". He said the upgraded partnership would open new opportunities for cooperation and people-to-people exchanges.
The visit also saw discussions on global issues, including reforms of international institutions. Slovakia reiterated its support for India's bid for permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council, a position New Delhi has long advocated.
Modi's trip to Slovakia formed part of a broader European tour that included France. The visit coincided with another diplomatic milestone, as it marked the Prime Minister's 100th foreign trip since assuming office in 2014.
The conferment of Slovakia's highest civilian honour is being seen as a reflection of growing ties between India and the Central European nation as both countries seek to expand cooperation in strategic and emerging sectors.
