The United States has confirmed that Secretary of State Marco Rubio will visit New Delhi next month, following a “productive” round of talks with India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri in Washington.

Misri, currently on a three-day visit to the US, met Rubio at the White House, where both sides undertook a comprehensive review of bilateral ties. Key areas of discussion included trade, critical minerals, defense cooperation and the strategic Quad partnership.

Announcing the development, US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor described the engagement as forward-looking. “Productive meeting… focused on our bilateral relationship, especially trade, critical minerals, defense and the Quad,” he said in a post on X.

Earlier in the visit, Misri held separate consultations with US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau and Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Allison Hooker.

According to the US State Department, Landau and Misri reaffirmed the strength of India-US ties while exchanging views on developments in the Persian Gulf and other global and regional priorities. Hooker, meanwhile, emphasized efforts to deepen collaboration across security, defense and economic domains.

“We are finding practical ways to make both Americans and Indians safer and more prosperous, including through the Quad,” Hooker said.

The Indian Embassy in Washington noted that discussions also reviewed progress on the bilateral agenda since the last round of Foreign Office Consultations held in December, alongside shared assessments of developments in West Asia and other regions of mutual interest.

Separately, US Vice President JD Vance is leading a delegation to Islamabad for talks with Iranian leaders, following a Pakistan-brokered two-week ceasefire between warring sides—adding further geopolitical context to the ongoing diplomatic engagements.
