Jaiswal and Sooryavanshi unleash fearless assault in 11-over shootout; Mumbai’s star-studded line-up falters in chase.
On a rain-curtailed evening in Guwahati, the contrast in approach proved decisive as Rajasthan Royals outplayed Mumbai Indians in a high-octane 11-over contest, powered by a blistering opening stand from Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.
With dark clouds looming over the Barsapara Cricket Stadium on April 7, the stage was set for a shortened but explosive encounter. Once play began, it was RR who seized control instantly, turning the game into a relentless batting exhibition that MI never quite matched.

Jaiswal set the tone early with an aggressive unbeaten 77, launching a 22-run assault on Deepak Chahar that immediately put Mumbai on the back foot. Sooryavanshi complemented him seamlessly, taking on even Jasprit Bumrah with remarkable confidence, including two towering sixes that underlined RR’s fearless intent.
In a powerplay that lasted just 3.2 overs, Rajasthan had already surged to 58 runs, effectively dictating the pace of the contest. They eventually piled up 150 in 11 overs, maintaining a striking rhythm with boundaries flowing almost every over.
The Royals’ strategy was unambiguous—attack from the outset, disregard reputations, and maximize every delivery.
Mumbai, in contrast, appeared hesitant.
Chasing a steep target in a shortened format demands urgency, but MI’s innings never found momentum. Ryan Rickelton struggled to accelerate, while Rohit Sharma failed to convert intent into execution. Despite a brief flourish from Suryakumar Yadav, who struck a lap-shot six, the innings lacked sustained aggression.
As wickets fell at regular intervals, contributions from Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya failed to shift momentum, leaving MI well short of the target.
While Sooryavanshi’s assault on Bumrah stood out, the defining factor was not a single passage of play but the contrasting mindset. RR approached the match as a sprint, maximizing every scoring opportunity, while MI seemed caught between caution and aggression.
Reflecting on the loss, Hardik Pandya admitted execution with the ball had been costly. “We lost it by 27 runs, which means five good balls and it could have been different. Their openers started well, and we were playing catch-up,” he said.
However, the gap extended beyond bowling lapses. Rajasthan’s aggressive start ensured they dictated terms throughout, leaving Mumbai chasing the game from the outset.
For Rajasthan Royals, the victory reinforces the impact of fearless opening partnerships, with Jaiswal and Sooryavanshi emerging as a potent combination.
For Mumbai Indians, the defeat raises questions about approach, particularly at the top of the order. Despite boasting a line-up filled with proven match-winners, the lack of urgency in a shortened contest proved costly.
On a night defined by urgency and execution, Rajasthan operated at full throttle—while Mumbai never quite got out of neutral.
