The Gujarat Titan

The Gujarat Titans delivered a clinical statement on April 30, avenging an earlier defeat with a commanding 4-wicket win over the Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Chasing ₹156, Gujarat surged home in just 15.5 overs, exposing a rare off day for Bengaluru in IPL 2026.

With a chance to climb to the top of the table, RCB faltered badly—both with bat and ball. Their total of ₹155 marked their lowest first-innings score this season and their first all-out collapse of the campaign. The defeat came in stark contrast to their dominant 9-wicket win over Delhi just days earlier.

Led by Shubman Gill, Gujarat began the chase with aggressive intent. Gill smashed ₹43 off a brisk start, including a punishing 24-run over against Josh Hazlewood, setting the tone early. He also crossed the milestone of 100 IPL sixes for GT before falling to Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

Earlier, RCB’s innings never found sustained rhythm. Virat Kohli looked in ominous touch, hammering five consecutive boundaries off Kagiso Rabada, but his promising knock ended at 28, halting early momentum. A 44-run stand between Devdutt Padikkal and Rajat Patidar briefly steadied the innings before Gujarat clawed back control.

RCB’s middle order then collapsed dramatically—from ₹96/6 in 10.3 overs, they managed only ₹59 runs in the final 53 balls. Arshad Khan starred with 3/22, while Jason Holder delivered an all-round performance (2 wickets, 3 catches) to choke the scoring.

In response, Jos Buttler kept Gujarat firmly in control with a fluent 39, reducing the required rate to below 100%. However, a brief wobble followed as RCB struck back through Bhuvneshwar and Romario Shepherd, raising hopes of a late twist.

But Gujarat held their nerve. A steady 30-run stand between Holder and Rahul Tewatia sealed the chase. Tewatia’s unbeaten 27 off 17 ensured there were no late hiccups before Rashid Khan struck the winning boundary.

The win lifts Gujarat’s net run rate from -0.475 to -0.192, though they remain fifth on the table. For RCB, the defeat serves as a sharp reality check in an otherwise strong campaign—proof that even frontrunners can stumble when execution falters.
