Chief Minister Vijay criticised NEET and defended Tamil Nadu’s two-language policy in his first major Assembly speech, outlining his government’s education priorities after taking office.

Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) founder and Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister Vijay delivered his first detailed speech in the Tamil Nadu Assembly on June 22, using the opportunity to defend his party’s political credentials and launch a sharp attack on the ruling DMK government.
Addressing the House during a discussion on the Governor’s address, the actor-turned-politician said that many people had initially dismissed TVK as merely “an actor’s party” and doubted its political future.

He argued that the party had since emerged as a significant political force in the state and was committed to raising public issues both inside and outside the Assembly.
The TVK chief criticised the DMK government over what he described as shortcomings in governance, law and order, and corruption.
He questioned the state government's handling of several public issues and alleged that ordinary citizens were facing increasing difficulties despite repeated assurances from the ruling establishment.
Vijay also accused the government of failing to adequately address concerns related to public safety and welfare. During his speech, he sought to position TVK as an alternative political platform capable of representing the aspirations of Tamil Nadu’s youth and middle class.
He stressed that his party’s entry into electoral politics was driven by a desire to bring change rather than merely participate in elections. He said TVK would continue to engage with people’s concerns and hold the government accountable on issues affecting daily life.
His remarks drew attention across the political spectrum as they marked his first substantial intervention in the Assembly since entering active politics.
Vijay formally launched TVK in 2024 and has since been positioning the party as a major challenger in the state’s political landscape. His Assembly speech is expected to be closely watched for signals about the party’s strategy and priorities in the run-up to future elections.
