Over five crore voters and nearly three lakh officials are set to participate in a single-phase election across 234 constituencies, making it one of the largest electoral exercises in the state’s history.

The southern state of Tamil Nadu is preparing for a crucial Assembly election, with over five crore voters expected to cast their ballots in a single-phase polling exercise.
According to reports, nearly three lakh polling personnel and officials have been deployed to manage the масштаб election process, ensuring smooth conduct across all 234 constituencies.

The election, scheduled for April 23, will decide the composition of the next legislative assembly, with results to be announced on May 4.
Authorities have made extensive logistical arrangements, including the deployment of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), security personnel, and polling staff across urban and remote regions.
With an electorate exceeding 5.6 crore voters, including a significant number of first-time voters, the election is being seen as a major democratic exercise. The voter base includes men, women, and third-gender electors, reflecting a broad demographic spread.
Election officials have also focused on inclusivity, making provisions for elderly and differently-abled voters, including facilities such as postal ballots and assisted voting mechanisms.
The contest is expected to be closely watched, with key political alliances and regional parties vying for power in a state known for its dynamic political landscape.
Campaigning concluded recently, marking the beginning of the mandatory silence period before voting.
Security has been tightened across the state, with authorities aiming to ensure a free and fair election. Special attention is being given to sensitive polling stations and remote areas, where officials have undertaken extensive efforts to facilitate voter participation.
The scale of the election, both in terms of voters and administrative deployment, highlights the complexity and significance of the democratic process in one of India’s most politically active states.
