Gogi, an MLA from Ludhiana West, accidentally shot himself while cleaning his weapon at home and sustained fatal bullet injuries to his head, police said.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Ludhiana West Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Gurpreet Bassi Gogi died of bullet wounds while cleaning his weapon at his residence on Jan 10 night, police said.
His family members claimed that he accidentally shot himself at home while cleaning his weapon and sustained bullet injuries to his head, said a senior police official.

The 58-year-old legislator was admitted to the Dayanand Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where he was declared dead on arrival.
"He was declared brought dead. The incident happened around 11.30 pm. A probe is underway," a police official said, adding that the exact cause of his death will only be determined after autopsy.
Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Jaskaran Singh Teja confirmed the death and said that he was brought dead to DMCH.
His body has been placed in the mortuary for postmortem. The incident occurred around 12 am, according to Teja.
Police Commissioner Kuldeep Chahal and Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal also reached DMCH following the incident.
District secretary, AAP Paramveer Singh said that the MLA had returned to his house in Ghumar Mandi after routine daily programs.
He was with his family in his last moments. Singh said that Gogi is survived by his wife, son, and daughter.
Dr Sukhchain Kaur Gogi, wife of the deceased, heard the sound of a gunshot and rushed to the spot to find her husband lying in a pool of blood, sources were quoted as saying.
“The family took him to DMCH with the help of security personnel. He was declared brought dead at DMCH,” sources said.
