The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on April 12 issued a three-line whip to all its Members of Parliament (MPs), mandating their presence during a special session of Parliament scheduled from April 16 to 18.
The directive applies to MPs in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha and requires them to remain present throughout the three-day session without exception. The party has stressed strict compliance, indicating the importance of the legislative agenda likely to be taken up during this period.

A three-line whip is the strictest form of party instruction, typically issued when critical discussions or voting are expected in Parliament. It obligates members to attend proceedings and vote according to the party line.
The upcoming session is expected to focus on key legislative proposals, including possible amendments related to the women’s reservation law.
The government is reportedly aiming to fast-track the implementation of provisions that would reserve 33% of seats for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies.
Sources indicate that the proposed amendments may also involve changes linked to delimitation, which could increase the total number of Lok Sabha seats and facilitate earlier implementation of the quota, potentially before the 2029 general elections.
The move has intensified political activity ahead of the session. Opposition parties have raised concerns over the timing and scope of the proposed legislation, with some leaders calling for broader consultations before any constitutional changes are introduced.
The special session is expected to witness significant debate, given the political and constitutional implications of the proposed measures.
