A suspected member of the notorious Thak Thak gang was arrested for a deceptive highway robbery targeting an NIA officer after the gang duped him using a fake car fault before fleeing with a bag full of cash.

In a daring heist on one of Delhi’s busiest flyovers, a 30-year-old man allegedly linked to the notorious Thak Thak gang was arrested late July 17 for robbing an officer from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) of ₹95,000 in cash. The brazen crime occurred on July 2 while the officer was travelling home in his private vehicle across the Burari flyover.
The accused, identified as Rohit, hails from Madangir in Ambedkar Nagar, said Delhi Police. “We analysed multiple CCTV camera feeds from the area and zeroed in on Rohit. Further investigation revealed his past involvement with the Thak Thak gang,” a senior officer said.

According to officials, the NIA officer was targeted around 9 pm when Rohit, riding a motorbike, flagged down the vehicle claiming a fuel leak. “He gestured toward the fuel tank, prompting the officer to ask his driver to stop. Once the vehicle halted, Rohit dismounted and began theatrically pouring oil into the engine to simulate a fault,” the officer explained.
Moments later, two accomplices on a separate bike arrived at the scene, pushed the officer to the ground, and grabbed a bag from the car containing the cash and a laptop. The trio fled within minutes.
In a strange twist, police said the robbers returned shortly afterward via the opposite lane of the flyover and placed the officer’s bag — minus the cash — on the road divider, and only the laptop remained inside.
