The MNS chief claims ₹18 crore is siphoned off from the Mumbai temple's donations every year and alleges a larger ₹1,400-crore misappropriation at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, prompting political reactions.

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray has alleged that nearly ₹18 crore is siphoned off every year from donations received at Mumbai's Siddhivinayak Temple, claiming that financial irregularities have plagued one of the country's richest temple trusts.
He also alleged that ₹1,400 crore was misappropriated in connection with the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, renewing his demand for greater transparency in the management of religious institutions.

Addressing a programme organized by his party's student wing, Thackeray said that "even temples are no longer safe" and questioned the accountability of authorities responsible for managing donations made by devotees.
He alleged that around ₹18 crore is stolen annually from the Siddhivinayak Temple's donation collections, though he did not present documentary evidence to substantiate the claim.
The MNS leader also referred to the alleged theft of donations at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, claiming that around ₹1,400 crore had been siphoned off.
The allegations come amid heightened political debate over financial transparency in religious trusts following the ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities involving offerings at the Ram Temple.
Thackeray questioned why allegations of financial misconduct at places of worship often become politically contentious, arguing that devotees deserve complete transparency regarding the utilisation of donations made in good faith.
The remarks have triggered political reactions in Maharashtra. Leaders associated with the Siddhivinayak Temple Trust rejected the allegations, maintaining that the temple's finances are managed transparently and in accordance with established procedures.
The Siddhivinayak Temple, located in Mumbai's Prabhadevi area, is among India's wealthiest and most visited temples, receiving substantial donations from devotees throughout the year. The Trust also undertakes several charitable activities, including support for healthcare and education initiatives.
