At NDA tea meeting, Modi lauds passage of Online Gaming Bill, calls it a reform with far-reaching public impact.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing leaders of the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) at a tea meeting, launched a sharp attack on the Congress, claiming that Rahul Gandhi feels “insecure and nervous” about the rise of several promising young leaders within his own party.
Modi said these youth leaders possess “great talent and potential” but are being denied opportunities because of the Congress’s “family-driven politics". He added that this insecurity at the top has kept new voices from emerging within the Opposition, according to sources.

The closed-door meeting, attended only by NDA leaders, also saw Modi describe the recently concluded Parliament session as a “productive one,” pointing to the passage of significant legislations despite Opposition disruptions.
He singled out the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025, calling it a “landmark reform with far-reaching consequences for society.” The Bill, passed on August 20, bans money-based online games and introduces strict penalties for violators, including gaming companies and individuals. “This is a legislation that directly touches people’s lives and deserved wider discussion,” Modi said, expressing disappointment at the Opposition’s absence from debates.
Criticizing Opposition MPs for “tearing bills and creating ruckus” instead of engaging in dialogue, the Prime Minister warned that their obstructionist politics was undermining democratic debate.
Meanwhile, the All India Gaming Federation (AIGF) has urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to reconsider the blanket ban proposed under the Bill, cautioning that it could deal a severe blow to the country’s fast-growing online gaming industry.
The session saw heated exchanges, particularly when three bills introduced by Home Minister Amit Shah — proposing a 30-day removal of the Prime Minister and Chief Ministers if arrested on serious charges — sparked uproar in the Lok Sabha, with Opposition MPs tearing up copies of the draft legislation.
