Newlywed Delhi techie found dead in Uttarakhand homestay, mystery deepens as probe begins

A vacation to Uttarakhand turned tragic for a young couple from Delhi after a 27-year-old software engineer was found dead inside a homestay room near Mussoorie, prompting a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.

P Radha Gayatri, working with an IT firm in Gurugram, was found unconscious inside a room at a homestay located on the Mussoorie-Dhanolti road on the morning of June 16. Emergency responders were alerted, but she was declared dead upon their arrival.

The incident has left investigators searching for answers, with bloodstains recovered from the room and a detailed post-mortem examination ordered to determine the cause of death.

Vacation ends in tragedy

According to police, Gayatri and her husband, Soumya Sricharan, had travelled from Delhi to Uttarakhand on June 13. The couple, who married on November 8, 2025, were originally from Visakhapatnam.

After spending time in Rishikesh, they arrived at a homestay in the Tipridhar area late on June 14 and checked into a room named "Bliss" at around 11.30 pm.

What began as a holiday getaway took a shocking turn just hours later.

Husband describes final hours

During preliminary questioning, Sricharan told police that the couple consumed alcohol during the night before going to sleep at around 3.30 am.

He later woke up to find Gayatri lying unconscious on the floor of the room. According to his statement, blood was visible around her mouth and nose.

He immediately informed the homestay management, following which police and the 108 ambulance service were contacted.

Medical personnel who reached the scene declared Gayatri dead.

Bloodstains found inside room

As part of the investigation, police conducted a detailed inspection of the room and recovered several items for examination.

Officials said bloodstains were found at multiple spots inside the room, including on a bedsheet. Gayatri's body was recovered from the floor. Investigators also found two empty liquor bottles and food items inside the room.

A forensic team later visited the homestay and collected samples and other evidence for analysis.

Authorities have not disclosed whether there were any signs of violence or struggle and have not indicated any possible cause of death at this stage.

Autopsy report awaited

Police said it would be premature to draw conclusions before forensic and medical examinations are completed.

The body has been sent to Coronation Hospital in Dehradun, where a detailed post-mortem examination is being conducted on June 16. Given the sensitivity of the case, officials requested that the autopsy be carried out by a panel of doctors and recorded on video.

Investigators have also questioned the husband and members of the homestay staff as part of the ongoing probe.

Family informed

Gayatri's family has been informed about the incident and was expected to arrive in Uttarakhand from Visakhapatnam on June 16.

Police said no complaint had been filed by the family so far.

With the cause of death still unknown, investigators are relying on the post-mortem and forensic reports to piece together what happened during the final hours of the young software engineer's life.

Until those findings emerge, the death of the newlywed inside Room "Bliss" remains an unsettling mystery that has stunned both families and raised serious questions about the events that unfolded on the night of June 14.
