Bike-borne assailants open fire on car killing Harjit Kaur and aide, chilling attack caught on camera as police probe links attack to jailed son’s criminal past.

In a chilling display of street violence, the mother of notorious gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria was shot dead in Punjab's Batala late June 26, sending shockwaves through the region. The attack, carried out by unidentified assailants on a motorbike, also claimed the life of her associate, Karanvir Singh.
Harjit Kaur, a former village panchayat member from Bhagwanpur, was traveling by car along Qadian Road in the Civil Lines area when gunmen opened fire around 9:30 pm. The brazen assault, partially caught on surveillance footage, left both Kaur and Singh critically wounded, with bullet injuries to the face, chest, and abdomen.

Police rushed the victims to hospital, where Karanvir Singh was declared dead on arrival. Harjit Kaur was referred to a facility in Amritsar but succumbed to her injuries soon after.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Paramveer Singh confirmed that a case has been registered and multiple teams are hunting the attackers. “Efforts are on to identify and apprehend the culprits. The motive is under investigation,” he said.
The targeted nature of the attack and its connection to Kaur — mother of one of Punjab’s most feared gangsters — has raised serious questions about the motives behind the murder. Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, currently incarcerated in Assam’s Silchar jail under the PIT-NDPS Act, has been in the spotlight for his alleged involvement in the 2022 assassination of singer Sidhu Moosewala and multiple other cases.
The daylight-style execution underscores growing concerns about gang-linked retribution killings in Punjab. While investigators remain tight-lipped on possible leads, the incident has reignited fears of an escalating turf war among rival factions.
