Several schools in Ahmedabad on Monday received emails threatening to blow up these institutions, just a week after around 100 schools in Delhi-NCR received bomb threat emails.
Reportedly, the threatening emails were sent from the same Russian domain “mail.ru”, that was used to send the bomb threats to Delhi schools.

Among the schools in Ahmedabad that got the threat emails were -- Delhi Public School (Bopal), Anand Niketan (Bopal), Asia English School (Vastrapur), Calorex School (Ghatlodiya), Amrita Vidyalaya (Ghatlodiya), New Noble School and ONGC Kendriya Vidyalaya (Chandkheda), reported India Today.
The emails prompted school authorities to inform the police control room after which police teams reached various schools in the city with bomb squads.
The emails were sent with the username [email protected]. In Delhi-NCR, the bomb threat emails were received from a username called [email protected]. Investigation so far has revealed that the term 'sawariim' (meaning clashing of the swords) is an Arabic word, which has been used by the Islamic State since 2014 to spread Islamist propaganda, India Today cited sources.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Police is set to approach the Union Home Ministry and the court to request a Letter Rogatory (LR) to Russia, seeking information about the email ID responsible for sending bomb threats to schools in Delhi-NCR.
They have already sought assistance from Interpol through the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). An LR is a legal request, and responses to such communications are typically prompt, reported Business Today.
Last year, Delhi Police sent an LR to Russia after a bomb threat was received by the Indian School at Sadiq Nagar on April 12. Russia responded promptly, revealing that the IP address used by the sender was 188.172.220.76, located in Austria and that a virtual private network was utilized.
