Session cut short amid political tensions as Delhi’s severe air pollution crisis remains ignored and unresolved.

The crucial discussion on Delhi-NCR’s worsening air crisis was derailed as Parliament’s Winter Session adjourned indefinitely December 18 morning, leaving the capital’s choking pollution unaddressed.
Despite last-minute hopes fueled by bipartisan calls, including Rahul Gandhi’s urgent plea and multiple opposition adjournment notices, the environment inside the House was deemed “not congenial” for debate, according to Lok Sabha sources.

The session, running since December 1 and dominated by contentious bills like the G RAM G rural employment act, ended amid fierce sloganeering and political drama, sidelining the city’s escalating air quality emergency. Delhi’s air quality index hit severe-plus levels mid-December, with dense fog worsening the crisis, yet Parliament chose silence over action.
Union Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav’s planned response on pollution never came as proceedings ended abruptly just an hour after resumption. With no resolution in sight, the capital’s smog crisis awaits attention only in the 2026 Budget Session, prolonging the health threat to millions.
Meanwhile, behind the scenes, rare cordial exchanges unfolded—Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi shared tea and positive words, yet the urgent issue of Delhi’s air pollution remained conspicuously absent from the agenda.
