Selected institutions across government, residential, central and private categories were recognized for excellence in sanitation, resource conservation, waste management, green campus development and community participation.

Uttar Pradesh has emerged as a strong performer in the Swachh and Green School Rating (SHVR) 2025-26, with 11 schools from the state earning positions in the national rankings announced under the Government of India's school sustainability assessment program.
The selected institutions span government schools, Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs), central schools, and private schools, underscoring the state's broad participation in initiatives focused on sanitation, environmental stewardship, and sustainable campus management.

Among the government institutions recognized nationally are PM Shri Primary School Italia Mafi in Sambhal, which secured Rank 12, Primary School Chokhapur in Pilibhit at Rank 25, PMV Kanya Ganchhapa in Chitrakoot at Rank 27, Primary School Sahajani in Bareilly at Rank 29, Composite School Aamgaon in Budaun at Rank 36, and Upper Primary School Kutubpur Labdaula in Saharanpur at Rank 55.
The state also recorded notable success in the KGBV category. KGBV Hariharpur Rani in Shravasti was placed ninth nationally, while KGBV Konch in Jalaun secured the 14th position.
Air Force School in Manauri, Prayagraj, and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Gajokhar, Varanasi, were also included in the rankings, securing 31st and 46th positions respectively. In the private school segment, Dayawati Modi Academy-1 in Meerut achieved Rank 4.
The recognition follows a multi-stage evaluation process in which Uttar Pradesh nominated its 20 best-performing schools for national assessment. Of these, 11 advanced to the final ranking list. Across India, a total of 191 schools were selected under the SHVR 2025-26 framework.
State education authorities have announced plans to recognize the top 20 schools from Uttar Pradesh as part of efforts to promote cleaner, greener, and more sustainable learning environments across educational institutions.
Schools were evaluated using a range of performance indicators, including hygiene and sanitation standards, water-saving measures, energy conservation practices, waste disposal systems, campus greening initiatives, and community engagement activities.
The assessment process began with schools submitting self-evaluations through the SHVR online portal. These submissions were subsequently reviewed through district-level and state-level verification rounds, followed by additional scrutiny of top-performing institutions before the national rankings were finalized.
Officials said the entire process was conducted digitally to ensure transparency and maintain quality standards.
Securing a place in the national rankings after clearing multiple levels of assessment is being viewed as a significant achievement for schools under the state's Basic Education Department.
