The initiative aims to deepen students' understanding of the state's heritage, promote analytical thinking, foster curiosity about local traditions, and support preparation for competitive examinations.

The Himachal Pradesh government will introduce revised textbooks for Classes 6 to 8 from the 2027-28 academic session, incorporating the state's history, dialects, traditional cuisine, folk culture, geography, economy, and political system into the curriculum.
The announcement was made by Education Minister Rohit Thakur while chairing a meeting on the revision of textbooks for middle school classes on July 30.

According to an official statement, the updated curriculum is designed to give students a broader understanding of Himachal Pradesh's historical, social, cultural, economic, and political development.
The revised textbooks will cover the state's journey from the prehistoric period to its formation and include lessons on regional dialects, traditional cuisine, freedom fighters, Kargil heroes, soldiers, contemporary issues, and other aspects of Himachal Pradesh's heritage and identity.
Thakur said the content and factual material for the new textbooks would be finalized within a month to facilitate their timely publication.
The books will be introduced in schools affiliated with the Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education beginning with the 2027-28 academic session.
The minister said the initiative aims to provide students with authentic information about the state, helping them develop analytical thinking, gain a deeper understanding of its history and culture, and encourage curiosity for further learning.
He added that the revised curriculum would also support students preparing for competitive examinations.
To oversee the curriculum revision, the state government has constituted a committee headed by Thakur. The panel has been holding regular meetings to strengthen the syllabus and ensure the revised textbooks are prepared and implemented on schedule.
The committee comprises the Secretary (Education), representatives from the Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education and the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), along with assistant professors and other subject experts.
